Cascade hops are a very commonly used hop in the US. This hop originated in a breeding program in Oregon at the Oregon State University. The Cascade hop was created so it would have resistance to downy mildew, a common threat to hop yards. Cascade hops are known for their floral and citrus flavor and aroma. While most frequently used for aroma, they work equally well for bittering. West coast ales are known for their usage of Cascade hops, and this style showcases Cascade well.

Cascade hops are grown around the world, most notably in Washington and ORegon in the US, as well as in Argentina and Tasmania, Australia.

Probably the most popular beer to use Cascade hops is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, which is a great example of a West Coast pale ale. While used in highly-hopped West Coast ales primarily, this versatile hop is used in porters, stouts, and barleywines as well.
