Smiling Samoyed took out Most Outstanding Beer
They may have spent the weekend shivering their way through the first Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival. But for a number of small South Australian breweries, there was plenty of warming cheer to be had at this year’s Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Awards.
Myponga’s Smiling Samoyed took out Most Outstanding Beer.This is for its Dark Ale as well as Champion Australian Style Pale Ale for its 12 Paws pale ale. Prancing Pony, based in the Adelaide Hills, followed a successful move to a new, larger venue earlier this year. Additionally, with the Champion Small Brewery title as well as Champion India Pale for its India Red Ale. Vale Brewing took out Champion Large Brewery. It is after its Vale Brewing and new Fox Hat beers scored highly and secured them the trophy traditionally won by Coopers.
Corinna Steeb, co-owner, said that every single beer scored [a medal] for them. While Frank missed the major trophy presentation. He’d rushed off to their stall to share the India Red Ale’s win with their staff. They didn’t expect it at all. It was totally a surprise and they were absolutely humbled.
She added that it’s an amazing event for Adelaide and the beautiful thing is it’s a 50/50 split of men and women. They’re just so happy to have their own beer festival. The organisers have done an amazing job.
Other winners at the Awards, which this year attracted 168 entries from more than 30 breweries. Included Victoria’s Hawthorn Brewing Company, which won the best American Style Pale Ale title and Best New Exhibit. Adelaide’s Brewboys won Celebrity Choice award. Considering their Seeing Double strong Scotch Ale, as well as the Champion Other Ale award. Coca-Cola Amatil and Casella Wines’ joint venture Australian Beer Company took out Champion Reduced Alcohol Beer. West End kept the flag flying for the old school brewers with Champion Australian Style Lager and past winner Goodieson Brewery collected Champion Stout.
