Oswestry’s Santander branch to shut for work
A high street bank in Oswestry will be closing its doors for two weeks to make its entrance disabled access-friendly. Santander, on The Cross, has been given planning permission to make the changes.
It plans to lower its entrance door, remove two steps and carry out internal refurbishment.
This is so people with wheelchairs and pushchairs can enter the building.
The work is due to be carried out for two weeks from July 16 which means it will not be open to customers.
The bank is grade II listed because it was built on September 10, 1951, and the entrance onto Cross Street is the only external access for customers.
Oswestry and District Access group lobbied the bank to improve its entrances for more than a year after it heard people were having to carry out their business on the street.
A Santander spokesperson said: “We are delighted that planning permission has been given for the access ramp so that we can ensure access for all our customers. Work will commence on July 16 and the branch will be closed for two weeks. Customers can access their accounts over the phone or internet or at any other Santander branch.
“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience while these essential works are carried out.”
