Time’s up. There’s no longer any excuse for drinking bad beer.
With approximately 40 craft breweries — and counting! — operating throughout the Hudson Valley, the region is being hailed by some as “the new Sonoma,” and attracting visitors from New York City and neighboring states to explore the area’s terroir.
Sounds like the perfect excuse for a spring road trip, to us.
To help navigate the bountiful terrain, we’ve gathered 10 of the most interesting upstarts in Dutchess, Ulster, Rockland and Westchester counties for readers to create self-guided tours of the craft beer trail along the river.

Clemson Brothers Brewing, Middletown
The scene: Launched in the iconic Clemson Brothers hacksaw factory in Middletown, this 2-year-old microbrewery is actually run by a family with a different surname: Porter.
Paul is the brewer, his brother Kenan runs the business side, and their real estate developer father Kenneth helped build out the venue, which kept all the best parts from its industrial legacy — exposed brick, arched factory windows — and combined it with bistro tables and a delicious bar menu of burgers. This spring, the brewery hopes to also offer live music in its beer garden, adding to the charmed atmosphere.
